The two-fold
mission of the LEMA Center includes working closely with BLM field
offices on remote sensing, GIS and outreach projects, and providing
training and data to assist GIS specialists in fulfilling their
responsibilities. These RS /GIS projects further our mission
by providing a learning environment for students who gain real
world experience.
To date,
the LEMA Center has worked with BLM offices in Alaska, Nevada,
Idaho and Utah. LEMA has also helped in the development of various
GIS database tools and improved GIS
technology. The program is constantly seeking new pilot projects
with the BLM to further develop its research and development capabilities
and continue to add to our existing GIS/ RS
database. Our goals are to share our ideas, technology and expertise
with the BLM and other state and federal agencies to better understand
our environment and become better stewards
of our natural resources.
