Model justification by spectral class for the Central Nevada ecoregion

Spectral classes derived from unsupervised classification of a Landsat TM mosaic are listed sequentially in bold numbers. Some spectral classes were "cluster busted" into several classes, with the original class left blank in the sequence. A brief text introduces the vegetation training data offering justifications for developing model parameters. Training plot data is described by weighted percent of occurrence in each spectral class with plot sample sizes listed in parenthesis.

 

Training plots were weighted by multiplying the number of pixels by the percentage of the plot they represent which equalizes training plots of various sizes. Model topographic parameters include elevation listed in feet at 100 foot intervals, slope listed in degrees at one degree intervals and aspect listed in eight major directions. Model vegetative location parameters include juniper and shadscale polygons. Each spectral model parameter contains the associated reference used to justify the parameter. Corresponding references for each number can be found in Appendix O.
