How
to view pdf files without downloading?

Install Adobe Acrobat Reader |

2. Install the
PDFViewer plug-in:
If you are on
a Unix platform:
PDF files
are set up to automatically handled by the browser using the acrobat reader
plugin through the network, without the need of launching acrobat as a
separate application.
If you are on
a Windows platform:
The PDFVewer plug-in
is automatically installed with the installation of Acrobat Reader
3. Set up the
PDFViewer plug-in, if you've never installed Adobe Acrobat Reader before:
1. Restart the
Netscape
2. To see if the plug-in is loaded properly, select the PREFERENCES
from the EDIT menu. Then select APPLICATIONS under the AVIGATOR heading.
3. In list of applications on the right side of this window, look for
the decription, ACROBAT or ADOBE ACROBAT FORMAT.
4. In the File Type Description underneath the Applications, this is
what you should see:
Extension: PDF
MIME Type: application/pdf
Handled By: Plugin.
If you don't find
this information, remove the Acrobat Reader application and reinstall.
4. Done.
If you are on
a Macintosh platform:
1. Quit Netscape
2. Inside the directory you have selected to put Acrobat Reader will
be a folder called Web Browser Plug-in. Inside this folder will be a
file called PDFViewer with an icon that looks like
. If you don't find this information, remove the Acrobat Reader application
and reinstall.
3. Place the PDFViewer inside the Plug-ins folder located inside the
Netscape Communicator folder.
3. Set up the
PDFViewer plug-in, if you've never installed Adobe Acrobat Reader before:
1. Restart the
Netscape
2. To see if it is loaded properly, select the PREFERENCES from the
EDIT menu. Then select APPLICATIONS under the NAVIGATOR heading.
3. Scroll down the list of applications on the right side of this window.
Look for the decription, PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT handled by PDFViewer.
Highlight this text by clicking on it once, then select the EDIT button.
4. This is what you should see:
Description:
Portable Document Format
MIME Type: application/pdf
Suffixes: pdf
Handled by: Plug-in is selected. PDFViewer appears in the option list.
