Past Projects
Sagebrush Ecosystem Mapping Using Landsat ETM
The objectives of this project were to research the habitat needs for sage grouse and devise a strategy for mapping sagebrush in a way that would be meaningful for sage grouse habitat management. The primary focus of this effort was to examine the potential for using remote sensing technology to map different categories of sagebrush in four study areas in northern Utah.
Gray's Lake NWR Wetland Vegegation Classification
The objective of this project was to map wetland vegetation at Grays Lake NWR using merged SPOT and IRS (Indian Remote Sensing) satellite imagery. Specific research objectives include applying a hybrid unsupervised/supervised classification technique, supported by field work, to generate a digital polygon layer characteristic of dominant wetland vegetation present at the refuge.
Utah 1995 GAP
This digital land cover dataset was created with funding from the National GAP Analysis Program (USGS, Biological Resources Division), and completed for the state of Utah in 1995. Land cover was modeled using Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper imagery from 1988-1989.
Nevada GAP
This digital land cover dataset was created with funding from the National GAP Analysis Program (USGS, Biological Resources Division) and completed for the state of Nevada in 1997. Land cover was mapped using Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper imagery from 1988-1991.
Idaho/Wyoming Landcover
This digital land cover dataset was created with funding from the National GAP Analysis Program (USGS, Biological Resources Division) and the United States Forest Service, Region 4. It was completed in 1998. Land cover was mapped using Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper imagery from 1992-1995.
