I have worked as a Research Associate for the RS/GIS Lab since October 2002. Most of my time is spent developing web mapping applications or related tools. I also get to help students and staff when they need custom programming done for ArcView or ArcGIS.
My primary responsibility is the Intermountain Region Digital Image Archive Center (IRDIAC). This has been a fun project to work on because there is so much variety. The basic application uses Java servlets, JSP, PHP, MapServer, PHP MapScript, IDL/ENVI, GDAL, and a MySQL database. That's a lot of different toys to get to play with! In addition, I've also recently started using ArcGIS Server, although we don't have any applications that are live yet.
The projects I've worked on here have made me a believer in certain Open Source tools. The packages I couldn't live without include MapServer, PHP MapScript, GDAL, and MySQL.
I used to do a lot of Avenue programming for ArcView. Although I don't do that as much anymore, I still have a variety of extensions and scripts posted on my ArcView Extensions page.
